History

As an integral part of the north-west Brisbane community for over fifty years, Stafford Heights Kindergarten has a long established reputation for delivering quality early childhood education and care.

In 1964, the Education Department granted land on Dorkay Street to Stafford Heights Kindergarten, and with the addition of a former American army hut from Enoggera Army Barracks, the centre was established.

Minister for Industrial Development, the Hon. F.A. Campbell MLA officially opened Stafford Heights Kindergarten on 22nd June 1968. The organisation was later incorporated on 24th October 1989.

For over 30 years, Robyn Isherwood was the heart and soul of the kindy and shaped thousands of children’s lives. Her leadership and connection to the community has seen many second generation families return to Stafford Heights Kindergarten. Upon Robyn’s retirement in 2012, Emma Keene was appointed Director, and together with Penny Williams, Alice Maloney and Tania Barry form our committed and experienced teaching staff.

Emma and Penny have worked together for many years and enjoy a strong reputation amongst their early childhood educator peers for their child-centred, play-based approach to teaching. Their leadership, combined with a stable staff, dedicated parent committee, and a solid plan for the future has seen  Stafford Heights Kindergarten awarded the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority’s (ACECQA) highest possible ranking of “Exceeding National Quality Standard” in all seven areas of the National Quality Framework – a very rare achievement for service providers.
