Our environment

Children, teachers and families at Stafford Heights Kindergarten enjoy a wealth of inviting spaces with limitless opportunities for play and exploration. Our kindy is enriched with beautiful grounds and gardens that the children relish and take pride in caring for, while our indoor environment is fresh and welcoming, filled with stunning natural light.

Much attention, care and thought has been placed into the design of spaces. We believe our environments act as a third teacher by providing a source of inspiration and awe for children; provoking imagination and inspiring learning.

Our single indoor area is an expansive, high ceilinged room. We begin each week with the room as a blank slate, allowing the children to set up learning spaces according to their current interests. Children can easily transition from craft to an active game or retreat to the quiet corner, while always being supervised. Our permanent art studio is always available for the children to access, and the room is equipped with air conditioning / heating to provide comfort year around.

Attached to the building is a large, covered verandah where the children enjoy their daily lunches on hand made timber furniture, surrounded by a lush rainforest garden. Having this verandah space allows the children to have a congruent indoor/outdoor program where they can safely and freely move between activities.

Children love the established vegetable garden and proactively participate in planting, maintaining and harvesting fresh produce. They learn about recycling and composting through our worm garden, and create fantasy games in the dinosaur/fairy garden. Our picking garden is much loved by children and families - you can always find some fresh herbs for dinner at kindy. Flowers, native plants and sensory ponds bring beautiful colour and texture to the grounds and attract birds and wildlife to the kindy.

Our downstairs playground includes lovely grassed areas, various climbing fort structures, swings, and many areas for quiet play or exploration. A wooden platform is the perfect place to put on a performance or enjoy a relaxing morning tea. Tiers of sandpits and sensory games are completely covered by sunshades…

…and there’s even a mysterious, magical door in the side of a tree that is the source of much wonderment and curiosity.

For the children’s convenience, both the upstairs indoor and downstairs outdoor areas are serviced by toilet facilities.
